Phew! I’m in the middle of quite the whirlwind. We spent the weekend in Maryland celebrating Allie’s first birthday with family, and now I have 4 days to prepare for her second party here. I can’t wait to share all the fun stuff my mom, sister and I made for her ballerina party! But first, I owe you a SYTYC update. This week’s challenge is “Upcycle,” so go check it out and vote. There are some AMAZING entries.
I came in second in the “Knock Off” round last week, with my Anthropologie scarf knockoff. I’ve had a lot of requests, and I promise that I will absolutely, positively post a pattern and tutorial for this scarf. I’m just not sure exactly when I’ll have time to write it. If not by the end of this week, then by early next, I swear. Meanwhile, here’s another look at it. Thank you, as always, for all the votes and support.
You could say I have a bit of an obsession with neck coverings. I love a good scarf. Part of it is that I live in a relatively warm climate, yet I’m always cold. Wearing scarves allows me to feel nice and cozy without having to bundle up from head to toe. What I’m saying is, you can never have too many scarves.
So when I saw this one from Anthropologie, I had to have it. But oh wait, it costs $168.
You read that right: one hundred and sixty-eight American dollars. Friends, this scarf is made from an acrylic-wool blend, not gold. It’s not even particularly hard to make. With approximately $20 worth of yarn and 2 evenings spent crocheting in front of the TV, I created an almost-identical substitute.
Each of the links (or donuts) as I call them is a round tube, which are surprisingly simple to make. It’s just a matter of a little increasing and decreasing. I hope I can share the pattern here after voting closes!
